A TIME TO DIE taught us to live.
Now, A TIME TO SPEAK teaches us to stand.
To stand for the truth. To stand for the broken. To stand through the pain…just as Parvin does. Again and again.
In this latest installment of the Out of Time Series, we continue to follow Parvin, the girl who should be dead, as she is captured by the government and forced, along with several others missing clocks, to a distant land of ice and fury.
As the only one who really understands what this desolation means, and to have lived so long without a clock ticking toward her end, Parvin becomes this rag-tag band’s leader. She is given the opportunity she so desperately wanted when she first began to write her own biography. The chance to speak.
Parvin’s voice is about to shake mountains, collapse walls, and bring two starkly different cultures together.
Did I mention she only has one hand? Yeah. This girl has grown so much from the careful, selfish teen we saw at the beginning or the first book. She has become a leader.
Much as Parvin’s journey is incredible to watch, by far my favorite character was the elusive Enforcer, Hawke. Introduced in the first book briefly, we really were able to meet and grow to love Solomon Hawke in this latest novel. His kindness, bravery, ingenuity and selflessness perfectly balanced out Parvin’s character—while also having a flashing temper that forewarned he is much more capable than this reader ever thought.
In truth, Solomon is this book’s star character. Its saving grace. That one person you didn’t expect to fall so in love with.
Which sort of applies to this entire novel. A TIME TO DIE was so good, and made such an impression on my heart, I didn’t think its sequel could do any better. But, just as Solomon’s gentle strength and Parvin’s courage nestled themselves deep into my heart, so has this book. Through it I have learned that sometimes to speak, leaving an impression on the world around you, one doesn’t even have to say a word.
Don’t miss out on this one!
(And be sure to bring a box of tissues, a lemon to throw at a wall, and be prepared to join the #Solomon fan club.)
