“Kara Swanson’s enthusiasm for good story telling really shone through in her critique…she took my first thirty pages and illuminated any issues or mistakes…while also presenting some ideas that I hadn’t even thought of before. Throw in Kara’s fun sense of humor, and the experience was wonderful. After going through her notes, I immediately sought out a full manuscript critique because I know my book will be stronger with Kara’s care and input.”

Kara’s Critique Service
Have you written that imaginative, character-driven novel?
Or, that personal story destined to be an article?
Is your heart ringing with a devotional?
You know what it is. That’s half the battle. But, you’re stuck.
Its unpolished. Unedited. Needs a bit of help to figure out exactly what it could be.
That’s where my critique comes in.
I was about fourteen when I experienced my first “critique” from someone other than my mother. I was taking an expository writing class, and for every story turned in, my teacher would mark up the paper with thoughts and ideas. Ways to make it better. Since then, I have been a part of many, many critique groups and had several critique partners. There are different levels of critiques, depending on your need.
My services are a mix of both line edit and copy edit.
I will go in depth in such things as…
I’m also happy to offer any help I can with genre, publishing and self-publishing questions, as I have been involved with quite a lot of it.
This critique is something that I think people can benefit from, no matter where they are in their writing journey–whether you are trying to tighten up your first draft, or getting your manuscript ready to send to a publisher. I will try to cater to your specific needs and goals.
My rate is about a $1 per page…or $20 for the first 30 pages. Fill out the contact form below for an exact quote.
While I will critique any genre or type of writing, I have a special place in my heart for Young Adult novels, fantasy, sci fi and anything with a paranormal twist. I’ve had an overactive imagination since I was a child, and love getting to see the worlds others create.
I will not edit anything with sexual content, graphic violence, crude language (sh**, F-bomb, A**, d*** or any others), sorcery or witchcraft (unless it is within a fantasy, villain/hero context without vivid details. Think of the White Witch from Narnia…), and hold the rights to refuse a manuscript if I so choose, upon which the author would be given a full refund.
I hope your story lies within these guidelines, as I would love to work with you!If you are interested, please give me a shout out through the contact form below!Let me know what piece of writing you are interested in getting critiqued (novel, novella, article, devotional, school paper, etc), and ask any questions you might have!
